NRGK Kase - Blogspace Interview Part 1
If like me, the title caught your attention, then hopefully, by the end of this post you will know more about the audio enigma that is NRGK Kase, AKA Kaptain Kindness AKA Kaptain problem Solv’em, AKA Kaptain Kase.
The list goes on but you get he gist right?
For those who don’t know me, hi my name is Erton Ev, writer / Editor at MLTI streaming Blogspace. My job is to get the content you want to read! Last weekend I got a rare chance to interview non other than the man himself, NRGK Kase, at our London studios.
So, the day of the interview arrives, I’m worried about whether or not I’ve written the right questions, and before I had enough time to rewrite the whole question list - out of sheer panic - I get a notification from the front desk that he is in the building.
The first thing that I noticed which was different from most other artists, was that he arrived alone, most artists I interview usually travel with anything from their mum to a full entourage, - not that they do much during the interview - this was something that I wanted to ask him about later and his answer may leave some of you surprised. So, to answer the question of, who is NRGK Kase, here is the full interview for your own reading pleasure.
EV:
Hi NRGK Kase and Welcome to the MLTI Streaming Blogspace & Thank you for joining us for this bolgspae interview.
Kase:
Thanks for inviting me down here. I’m kinda excited I ain’t gonna lie. This is all a bit new for me, I haven't done a blogspace interview before.
EV:
I’m glad to hear that you’re excited, that’s the kind of energy we want, without going overboard of course haha.
Kase
Yeah yeah, excited but composed I know that energy, I got you.
EV
Cool cool, now let’s jump in to it, interview time, no more small talk. Let’s go, you ready?
Kase
Yeah, I stay ready, let’s do this.
EV
Alright, lets get to it, first question, Please introduce yourself using 10 words, all of 10 words no more or less...
Kase
Rah 10 words, I struggled to do it in 3 words at my last job interview haha, Ok 10 words let me think.
EV
Ha, well I think you’ve used more than 10 already still.
Kase
Nah nah, that was me preparing the answer you can’t count that this my answer starting from now… Creative / Eclectic / Gemini / Productive / Solutionist / Helper / Greatness / Love / Deep / Mysterious. Yeah I could probably keep going now but I think that’s ten so yeah. And that’s only one side of the Gemini haha.
EV
That’s interesting, you said greatness there, that’s not a word I’ve heard many people use to describe themselves, why greatness what does it mean for you?
Kase
Well it’s just what I believe in really, everything I do, I do my best to represent greatness, to deliver greatness, to search for greatness, to teach greatness so yeah, it’s like an ethos really, I walk with greatness, which then makes me at least part of… you guessed it, greatness.
EV
OK OK, so really we can add captain greatness to the list then yeah? Kase You know what, I like that!!, lived many ages, seen many stages, here to show you how to make it, call me captain greatness.
EV
Aayyy that was sick, I’m sure I can call that an exclusive freestyle, you heard it here first people!! Ok that was a bit about you, and there is more to come but now let’s get into the content, tell us about your latest project, title, features platforms etc.
Kase
My latest project? That would be one I’m currently working on, I can’t tell you too much, because the collection is still building but it includes content like my latest post, STBT, “SomethingToBopTo” - available my artist page - which isn’t what it sounds like, I don’t want to spoil it for those that haven’t listened to it yet Check it out if you haven’t already, uk probably like it.
EV
What was the idea behind this content, how did it come to be?
Kase
Well where do I start? Hmmm the thing is, this came from something that was much bigger than the content itself. This is more about a feeling that exists. It’s something that I’ve had or felt, for a long time, this is part of a much larger collection of music songs and sounds that are different by nature but the same in feeling. It’s about giving hope, unlocking a deeper sense of who we are and our powers and responsibilities you know.
There are a lot of destractions around and now more than ever, I think it’s time to stand up for something and not be scared breaking some eggs if you know what I mean. As for this piece of content itself this was born out of a moment of feeling like a I can! you know. Like I can and I should, dare to speak freely, compose freely. I felt like I was writing for myself as a listener as much a anyone else, and I didn’t care about the rules this time (not that I much of a rule keeper at the best of times) I fancy myself a bit of a mould breaker but this was one of those tracks that made me stretch even further. Like I had to be even more honest, even more ruthless even more dynamic with the flows, even deeper poetry in the rhymes, all of that, and the best part is it felt so natural so I could just let it flow, hense the ermm timestamp haha if you know you know. That one was for those that have checked it out already.
EV
What are your inspirations, music or otherwise like, what drive you you know, for some people it’s money some people are driven by family, what’s the thing or things that really drive you to do what you do each day?
Kase
Eeesh going deep with the questions Yeah? I gotta think about this one for real. Inspirations music or otherwise I would have to say musically it’s the people that have broken barriers to change the game, the Timbos and Busta’s and Luda’s, the Kano’s, Wiley’s, these guys have all done a madness in the game. When it comes to inspiration generally, I’m most driven by change, change makers, pioneers, explorers, people that aren’t scared to challenge the status quo. I feel like there’s a lot of the same things going around, and everyone following the same scripts, so anyone who isn’t scared to try something new , especially in the creative spaces, the arts but also in life in general, whether it’s someone who comes up with a world changing business idea or strategy, or lands a worlds first in a x-games or invents the app or tool that we all need, those kinds of people and actions inspire me. They keep me focused and believing in what I do and why I do it.
EV:
If you could work with any artist right now who would it be and why?
Kase:
Any artist right now? Oooooh, that’s a tough question, but apart from the obvious, meaning getting a chance to work with the people that I grew up watching. There are a few people that I would work with actually, Bryn BP is one I would love to see what we can come up with in a creative space. If I could get a day with Ghetts and Kano, that’s history right there. Rae is another one on the hit list, creatively top tier, so yeah any of these people, plus there are loads more, these are just the ones I could think of from the top of my head now.
EV:
Where would you say your musical inspiration / passion comes from?
Kase:
Hmm I would say it’s in my blood really. I know it sounds cliche but honestly, I feel like it’s just something that’s in me, I couldn’t turn it off if I tried, so the passion is there from the jump. Inspiration wise, I think that come from the greats that did it before me. And it not just the celebs either.
One of my earliest inspirations musically was seeing my uncle play in his band, they used to rehearse on Thursday evenings I think, (no idea why) and I would get to watch them up close and see how each player has a sound or instrument that is part of the bigger sound of the band itself. My uncle was on electric guitar but it was the drummer for me, the rhythm is my language and I just felt like I was listening to a fluent speaker, teaching me about the music you know.
EV
If you could receive your sound I your own words what would those words be?
Kase:
My sound in my own words…. Hmmm…. Funny enough, that question is tougher that you think. Usually I’m asking people to describe what they think of feel when they hear my music. To describe it I’m my own words, different / digital / emotive / poetry / genre transcending / free from bounds / more than just music!
